Tour de l'Avenir draws world's top U23 talent to France
The USA Cycling National Development Program will field six of the country's top under-23 talent at the upcoming Tour de l'Avenir. The group, who have logged hundreds of days of European race experience with USA Cycling's NDP between them, should be among the favorites to win the Tour of the Future, the U23 equivalent of the Tour de France.
NRC team titles decided at Chris Thater
Although Catherine Cheatley and Luis Amaran all but had the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar 2010 individual titles in the bag heading into the final event, their teams were still fighting for every point. The Fly V Australia men's squad pulled out all the stops at the Chris Thater Memorial, finishing one-and-two to lock down the men's team title. Cheatley finished second to help earn the overall women's title for the Colavita/Baci p/b Cooking Light ladies.
Registration for UCI Continental teams now open
Registration is now open for UCI's men's Continental and women's road teams. All teams wishing to register must contact USA Cycling before October 31. All UCI documents and contracts must be submitted to USA Cycling before November 5. New teams for 2011 should immediately contact USA Cycling Technical Director Shawn Farrell.
Men's NRC team competition heats up after Tour of Utah concludes
Levi Leipheimer, racing for Mellow Johnny's, won the six-day Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah on Sunday. Meanwhile, the penultimate race on the National Racing Calendar only served to tighten the margins between the top men's and women's professional teams in the country.
Holloway earns 2010 Pro Criterium Stars-and-Stripes jersey
By becoming the first American to cross the line, Daniel Holloway (Morgan Hill, Calif./BISSELL Pro Cycling) earned the Stars-and-Stripes jersey at Saturday's ATandamp;T USA Cycling Professional Criterium National Championships at the Glencoe Grand Prix.
Peanut Butter and Co. TWENTY 12 just misses clean sweep of WPCS
Peanut Butter andamp; Co. TWENTY 12 just missed a clean sweep of the 2010 Women's Prestige Cycling Series, claiming everything but the sprinter's jersey. In addition to the team classification, PB andamp; Co. TWENTY 12's Mara Abbott won the individual title and Best Young Rider classification. Carla Swart of Team Vera Bradley Foundation took the sprint classification.
DEVELOPMENT WRAP: Next generation of U.S. cycling is strong
The next generation of American cycling is looking strong. The U.S. junior men are ranked number one in the world for road cycling in the UCI's Junior Nations Cup while Connor Fields and Corben Sharrah are the top two junior men in the UCI's BMX Nations Rankings. USA Cycling is continuing to build the future of American cycling with initiatives like its Regional Development Camps, two of which wrapped up last week in Oregon and Wisconsin.
ATandT USA Cycling Pro Criterium Nationals Saturday in Glencoe
The nationandrsquo;s top sprinters will head to Glencoe, Illinois on Saturday to contest the ATandamp;T USA Cycling Professional Criterium National Championship. Nearly 100 of the nationandrsquo;s top professional criterium racers will take to the line to vie for the Stars-and-Stripes jersey that will be awarded to the first American across the line at the conclusion of the 100-kilometer affair.
Abbott named USOC July Female Athlete of the Month runner-up
The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced its July Athletes of the Month today with cyclist Mara Abbott receiving runner-up honors. Softball player Natasha Watley and track andamp; field star David Oliver were named the USOC July Athletes of the Month, while doubles tennis champions and brothers Bob and Mike Bryan were awarded Team of the Month honors.
National Racing Calendar to end with Chris Thater Memorial
The US 10K Classic is no longer an official USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) event. Previously set as the women's NRC finale, the race has been removed from the schedule due to a reduction in prize money below USA Cycling's minimum requirement. The final NRC event for both men and women will be the 27th Annual Chris Thater Memorial on August 28-29.
